[Iran]

If you can't arrange in your homecountry or your current place of permanent residence, best place to get it in Europe is probably in Bern/Switzerland. 90 days without hassles for most westerners. Next best place coming from the west ist probably Turkey. Places where you can get it are Istanbul, Ankara and Erzurum (as far as I know). It is possible to apply either in Ankara or Istanbul and have the visa sent for pickup to Erzurum. If you plan do to so, make sure you get a phonenumber and verify if you get somebody capable on the line BEFORE you leave... Apply for 90 days, even if you need less. I had bad luck with mine. Applied in Ankara and asked to send it to Erzurum, as I didn't want to wait in Ankara for 2 or 3 weeks. Never arrived there, had no means to contact Ankara, apart from going there personally. Staff in Erzurum was not helpful at all. Decided to reapply in Tbilisi/Georgia. Cannot recommend it! 60 Euro (Ankara was 50$), waiting 2 weeks and ended up getting 15 days instead of 30 which I had applied for.

The Iranian Consulate in Ankara is located close to the embassy-destrict in Cankaya, in the center, southeast of the US-Embassy/Atatuerk-Boulevard. Ypu need to bring 50$, 2 Photos and a copy of the first page of your passport.

The Iranian Consulate in Tbilisi is located in the Vake-destrict. You can take bus No.6 but best is to go there by taxi the first time. From the center it should not cost more than 5-6 Lari. As the majority of taxis don't have meters, negotiate the price beforehand or just hand over the money upon arrival if you know how much it is. Never ask the driver for the price once he has taken you there!

[Azerbaijan]

Got mine in Tbilisi as I heard it would be easier and cheaper than in Ankara - it is not. instead of 40$ it's 60 Euros for a 30 day tourist visa now and they changed the application process in autumn last year. So currently it's like this: apply the 1st day, come back 3 days later in the morning. Go to a special bank which is far away in the center. Come back in the afternoon to collect your visa.

The Azeri consulate in Tbilisi is located in the Khipshidze-quarter. Ask people for directions or take a taxi the first time. As the majority of taxis don't have meters, negotiate the price beforehand or just hand over the money upon arrival if you know how much it is. Never ask the driver for the price once he has taken you there! Going there from the center cost you no more then 5 Lari. You need to bring: 60 Euro, 2 photos and a copy of your passport.

[Kazakhstan]
Got mine in Baku in 1 day. Easy for most westerners. Take the Metro to Genjlik Station. Leave metro in the direction the Metro entered the station ("go left"). Walk up the stairs and exit the station to the right. Turn round 180 degrees. If you did well you see McDonalds and Ramstore on the other side of the road. Turn around 180 degrees again and start walking for approx. 100ms. Take the first street left and keep walking for another 100-200m. there it is on the left hand side.

For 30 day singleentry tourist visa you need to bring: $40, 1 photo, one copy of the first page of your passport.

Not sure about the address...

[Uzbekistan]

Got mine in Baku. Easy for most westerners. Take marshrutka no.3 to Badamdar from behind Baki Sovieti Metro station. Ask the driver to drop you off at CITIMART (small supermarket). Sometimes they forget and you get a bumpy citytour through Badamdar... To avoid this look for an oval sign saying BADAMDAR once the minibus went all the way uphill. A few hundred meters after the sign you will see a blue "Petrol" petrolstation. Citimart is a few meters further ahead. Get off here. Take the street to your right inbetween the petrolstation and citimart. Walk it all the way to the end and you will see the Usbek flag.

For a 30 day singleentry touristvisa you need to bring: $75, 1 photo, 1 copy of your passport.

[China]

Got mine in Baku. Easy. 90 days the same day! No LOI! The easiest way to get to the Chinese Embassy is to find the main Shopping street Nizami Kuchasi. Walk it in eastern direction all the way to the end. Turn right walk 50m and you are in front of it. Don't try to get a 90 day visa in Tbilisi, it's not worth the hassle!

For a 90 day tourist visa you need to bring $30, 1 photo, 1 copy of your passport. Allow it to take 1 week. To get it on the same day you pay an express surcharge of $30.

Address: Xaqani Kuchasi 67 (this street runs parallel to Nizami, streetname is written differently on signs)

[Tadjikistan]
